The Story of More Than Fore: A Mission to Give Back

More Than Fore was founded in the spring of 2020, born from a heartfelt desire to give back to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The idea had been on Randy Benefield’s heart for years, inspired by his niece’s battle with cancer.

The vision truly took shape in April 2020 when Jerod and Brandi Breaux’s son was diagnosed with leukemia and sent to St. Jude for treatment. Witnessing firsthand the incredible care and lifesaving work St. Jude provides for their son and children around the world, they were deeply moved. During this time, a friend, Josh Foster, reached out to Jerod in Memphis to discuss bringing More Than Fore to life. Jerod and Brandi immediately embraced the idea, and with Randy and a dedicated group of friends, they formed a team that works tirelessly each year to raise funds for St. Jude.

Since its inception, More Than Fore has raised over $260,000 and has provided support to local families navigating the challenges of a childhood cancer diagnosis. In addition to direct financial assistance, the organization proudly sponsors high school students to attend the St. Jude Leadership Conference annually, inspiring the next generation of advocates for pediatric cancer research.

Looking ahead, our mission remains clear: to reach a fundraising goal of $1 million, ensuring that St. Jude can continue its groundbreaking work in treating and curing childhood cancer. With the unwavering support of our community, we are committed to making a lasting impact one swing at a time.

Together, we are More Than Fore. Randy Benefield, Jerod Breaux, Kevin Raiford, Josh Foster, Paul Roy, Lauren Fitts, Sarada Bonnett, Angela Speed, Kellie Bridges, Keith Sumrall and Erich Belk.

Brady Breaux

In April 2020, at the age of 15, Brady Breaux was diagnosed with leukemia at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, an affiliate of St. Jude. Within 24 hours, he was in Memphis, Tennessee, at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, beginning treatment.

After nearly three years of treatment, Brady received his final chemotherapy session in February 2023 and is now doing great. He is currently a junior at the University of Alabama.

Thanks to St. Jude, all of Brady’s treatment costs were covered, housing was provided when needed, and all travel to and from Memphis was reimbursed. When St. Jude opened in 1962, the survival rate for leukemia was just 4%; today, it stands at an incredible 96%.

Brady and his family are deeply grateful to everyone who supports More Than Fore, with the hope that one day, the survival rate will reach 100%.

Claudia Quave

When my niece, Claudia, was just eight years old, our family received devastating news—she had been diagnosed with a rare form of pediatric cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma.

My sister, Amanda, an attorney in Biloxi and a mother of three, immediately put her career on hold and left for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis. For a year and a half, she was unable to work and endured the heartbreaking separation from her family. Despite the immense challenges, she will tell you that St. Jude is the best place to be in the worst possible circumstances. St. Jude saved Claudia’s life.

Now, ten years later, Claudia is cancer-free and thriving. She is a freshman at the University of South Alabama pursuing a degree in Nursing, inspired by the care and support she received.

Our family is forever grateful to St. Jude and organizations like More Than Fore, which help ease the financial and emotional burdens for families facing the unimaginable. Their support allows parents to focus entirely on their child’s care without added stress.

Support a great cause, and donate to St. Jude’s today!
